Ornamental Iron
Ornamental Iron has been a part of the architecture and culture of Europe for more than 2,000 years. Blacksmiths of Europe brought the trade to America and first used wrought iron for tool making and later in more artistic applications.

When we fabricate ornamental iron products, we use the highest quality forged iron components that are imported from Italy and England. There are more than 7,500 architectural designs from which to choose. The modern production techniques give us the ability to select products for your projects of any size and budget requirements. We can develop designs for you that are Traditional, Spanish, Mediterranean, or Contemporary.

What are some of the products available in Ornamental Iron?

There are endless ideas for using forged iron components to add some unique personality to your home or business.

Why is Ornamental Iron so popular?
It's attractive. Ornamental iron will compliment all other building materials, such as wood, plaster, rock and tile. The numerous architectural designs provide a unique contrast to the rest of the home. Ornamental iron helps create a personality for your home.

It's durable. Even in an environment near the sea, forged iron will last for years. In fact there are gates and railings in Europe that are hundreds of years old. New Orleans is a great example here in the United States where most of the buildings incorporate ornamental iron into the architecture and many are several hundred years old.

It's strong. Welded forged iron is very strong, yet not overbearing in size. Once a railing or fence or screen is secured in place, it will withstand the normal pressures of everyday use without compromising its purpose and appearance.

What about rust?
Yes, iron will rust. However, there are many great products on the market that are used to prevent or reduce the rust. Other products are available that will actually convert the rust and prepare a surface for painting.

For the best protection we sand blast the finished product and coat with an electrostatic powder coating that is baked on. We use a special fabrication process for the powder coating that allows for 100% welding around all components to eliminate any areas where water can get inside and cause rusting. Powder coating will provide years of protection with very minimal touch-up required.

There are also special paints available that will inhibit rust. Most people who use paint on outside ironwork will plan an annual touch-up project. Touch-up is quite simple with the great products we have today. Some coatings will encapsulate the rust and form a hard surface for good protection.

Design Ideas?
If you are interested is looking at some design ideas, give us a call and we will happy to meet with you in your home or business to discuss your wants and needs. We have several books with photos and illustrations for you to review.

Linda is the design expert. This has been her passion all of her life. She has a great eye and feeling for what goes with what. Tom always trusts her insights and advice.

Tom will make it happen for you. He will show you some options on structural design for maximum strength and performance.

We can all look at the imported components and determine what will work best to match the theme you like and your budget as well. The pictures give us great ideas, but do not really represent the quality of the actual components. Therefore, we will bring samples of iron balusters, scrolls, pickets, rosettes and other products so that you can see up close and touch the actual forged iron components.

How expensive is ornamental iron compared to wood?
Ornamental iron may cost more than wood in many cases, but not much more. There are ways to keep the cost down, if that is a concern. One way is for you to do your own painting. Its not hard to do, but it does take time, especially when you are painting a lot of scrolls and other small pieces.

Another way to keep the cost down is by selecting some of the more simple pieces with fewer small scrolls and hammered pieces.

We will certainly work with you to stay within your budget, without compromising quality.
